B.Sc(Hons) in Multimedia Systems


Mode of Study: Campus Learning | Distance Learning

The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Multimedia Systems is targeted at those wishing to enter in to the IT Sector through Multimedia, Multimedia Development, Digital Media Applications, Designing, Printing, Marketing, Photographic Services, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Multimedia Services Management, 2D and 3D Transformations, Web Technologies, Web Design, Video & Radio Production, Data Transmission or Compression, Television, Games and Interactive Entertainment as well as CD-DVD Replications and Packaging. Graduates of this programme can choose several career paths which include jobs in fields such as Multimedia Entertainment, Multimedia Systems and Applications and Web Based Development.

Programme details: The programme consists of core (required) and some modules may have pre-requisites (i.e. may require the student to pass another module or set of modules first). Some modules may be co-requisite (i.e. such modules are required to be taken together). The number at the end of the module in parenthesis indicates the credit load of the module. 1 credit is equal to 10 hours of learning (guided, in-class and independent combined); therefore a 10-credit module requires on average 100 hours of learning from the student.

Module 1 for Block Release: Audio Video Production ā€“ C7-AVP-17

Audio and Video Production Module, Three Days On-Campus

Students will use an iMac Computers in our Audio and Video Lab to learn Live Music and Video Production. Through developing a fundamental understanding of audio/video interfaces, audio/video mixers and microphones, and camera,

Day 1

In day one, students will build basic skills for recording and delivering quality audio in field and location environments. Specific focus will be on audio production for a video or film set as well as various multiple sound source environments.

Morning session- Understanding the studio setup

  • Basics of Acoustics
  • Basics of Microphones
  • Mixer Operation
  • Mic Placement on Set
  • Field Audio

Afternoon session- Audio recording (Practical session)

  • Studio Audio recording
  • Audio editing using Adobe Audition

Day 2

Day 2 will focus in producing a complete movie.

Morning Session

  • Working in small groups and guided by the instructor, students learn Screen Writing
  • Break down any script into manageable pieces ready for shooting
  • The basics of single-camera video production,
  • The basics of Multi-camera video production

Afternoon Session

Field audio recording, and lighting for documentary and narrative film.

  • Students learn how to light an interview like a pro and make the most of their equipment in the field.

Day 3

  • Students will Apply the learned techniques of audio and video production.
  • Students will produce a short documentary or narrative film scene on their own and edit and deliver that movie using Adobe Premiere.
  • The instructor will also screen and critique students' work as it evolves and refine methods for strengthening stories by looking at successful movies that have cracked the code.

Admissions Criteria

1) Applicants are expected to have successfully completed secondary schooling. The typical entry requirement is BGCSE or IGCSE (in Botswana), LGCSE (in Lesotho) or other equivalent secondary school qualification. BGCSE or IGCSE (in Botswana), LGCSE (in Lesotho) candidates are required to achieve a minimum grade of ā€˜Dā€™ in five subjects.

2) Applicants must have 10 points in English and Mathematics combined or 32 points in the top 5 subjects.

3) Applicants in possession of a Diploma or Higher Diploma in related field may be given exemptions based on the credit point equivalency
